Kilwarlin lost 150 yards at the start as Merry Hampton set the early pace which was miserably slow. As they reached the hill the favourite had made up the lost ground and was on terms with the field. At the Red House turn Eiridspord took over the running, closely follwed by Merr Hampton and Carrasco. At the distance Kilwarlin challenged Eiridspord and ran on strongly to win by half a length in 3 minutes 26 seconds, withMerry Hampton a head ahead of Timothy. As well as winning the St Leger Kilwarlin carried off the Great Challenge Stakes at Newmarket. Over Round 102%
